How many years have you worked in the automotive industry? I worked in the Automotive Industry since the beginning of my career. This year will be 22 years. What was your first job in the automotive industry? My first job in the Automotive Industry was in Marketing when I was 22, after my University graduation. I moved to Michigan after graduating from University in Italy. How many years have you been with Penske? I have been working in the Penske family of companies my entire career, since 1999 What positions have you held in the company? Oh Well…. I held many different roles in many different subs. I started at Detroit Diesel, a diesel engine manufacturer owned by Penske Corp in 1999. I held several positions. First in Marketing, then Project Management, then Finance and Accounting. Then I moved to Penske Corporation where I held different positions in the Corporate Accounting area. In 2003 I moved to PAG Inc. where I initially worked as Internal Auditor and had the opportunity to meet most of our organization and dealerships across the USA. In 2004 PAG started investing in the European Market and I had the opportunity to work at several acquisitions in Germany. I was asked to relocate to Germany in 2005 where I initially integrated a newly acquired company into PAG. Then we continued to make acquisitions and I was promoted to become the CFO for our Germany subsidiary. In 2012 PAG invested in the Italian Market and I became the CFO for Europe (Italy and Germany). In 2016 we increased our presence in Italy and I was promoted to Managing Director and CFO or our Italian subsidiary. Just to simplify here is a summary of my positions in the Penske Group: Detroit Diesel Corporation (Sub of Penske Corp) – USA • Marketing Coordinator • Project management • Corporate Accounting Penske Corporation – USA • Corporate Controlling / Financial Analyst Penske Automotive Group (USA – Germany – Italy) • Internal Audit (USA And International) • Due Diligence projects for new acquisitions (USA and International) • CFO PAG Germany • CFO PAG Europe (Germany and Italy) • Managing Director and CFO (PAG Italy) What is your current title? I am currently the Managing Director and CFO or PAG Italy – PAG Italian subsidiary. What are your main responsibilities? I am responsible to run our Italian operations in all aspects, from Finance, Accounting, HR, Marketing on the Italy corporate level together with our Joint Venture partner and MD Andrea Mantellini. I am also responsible to identify potential new acquisitions on the market. PAG Italy was created in 2012 and has now 20 locations in Northern Italy and represents exclusively premium brands: Audi, BMW and MINI, Mercedes, Smart, JLR, Lamborghini, Porsche and Volvo. We employ 620 Employees. What attracted you to the automotive industry? Well, first of all I am Italian, and I am originally from the region famous as “Italian Motor Valley” where a lot of very popular car manufacturers are located like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati. I have Cars in my blood. The automotive industry offered me my first opportunity and it kept becoming better and better. I was very lucky to be exposed to several sides of the industry from OEM Engine production to OEM supplier to Automotive Retail. What part of your job do you find most satisfying? The part I prefer in growing other people. At this stage in my career I feel my main goal is to grow as many people as possible, mentor them and allow them to have the growth opportunity they deserve. What is your proudest professional achievement? I have several things I would love to mention but I think the achievement I am mostly proud of is being able to ‘sail’ the company through the storm in 2020 caused by COVID 19. It was a very challenging situation, but I am very proud of the team for coming together and making tough decisions to allow our business to remain sustainable. The team come out stronger and more committed than before. It was the most difficult moment in my career and as a manager and I learned a lot from it. Who has had the biggest influence on your career? Here I should name a lot of people but If I have to name one it is certainly Roger Penske who I had the privilege to work with very closely during our PAG European acquisitions. I also would like to mention Jens Werner (CEO of PAG in Europe) who has been key in mentoring me during my first years in Europe as I was very junior in my role, and my responsibilities were growing very quickly. My husband Gianluca also had a strong influence in my career. He always gave me great business advice and always challenged me to improve and go forward. I could really name a lot of other people in our company that I would like to thank for their support and above I just mentioned the ones that influenced me at a very young age where my career was just starting. What is the best career advice you’ve ever received? I would like to mention so many of them but one I really like is the following. “Do not expect people to get to your same conclusions unless they have the same information”. This advice came from Roger directly and it was extremely useful in getting deals done, negotiating and running the company in a very open and inclusive way, sharing knowledge and information. What advice would you give to a young woman considering a career in the auto industry? Get your driver license and be ready to speed, to brake, to accelerate, to turn, to go uphill and downhill but most importantly be ready to never stop! Automotive is an exciting place to be! What’s your favorite weekend activity? I work a lot so my weekends are fully reserved for my family. I also managed to get married and have 2 kids as I was hopping between an airplane and the next one between countries and continents. So during weekends I love to stay home and relax with my kids (8 and 9 years old) and my husband. I also love to cook healthy Italian food and enjoy a glass of good Italian Chianti. I also like to exercise, and I think this is a very important part of my life to make sure I am always healthy and fit! Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years? For sure I see myself in the Penske organization, not sure where in the world . I cannot think about a better organization. Let’s see what opportunities will be in front of me in the next few years… I always love to keep an open mind. Looking back on the last decade, how have you seen the automotive industry landscape change and evolve to engage more women? The automotive Industry, especially in Italy where I live and work is still a very male dominated environment. Things are changing slowly, and I am investing time and resources to increase the attractiveness of our industry to the eyes on young Italian women. There are still very few women in leadership position in the auto industry. When I travel to OEM dealer meetings, I am often the only woman in a senior leadership position. It will take time bet we will make it! Any other comments you would like to add? Always be positive and look forward! Traduzione Da quanti anni lavori nel settore automotive? Ho lavorato nell’industria automobilistica dall’inizio della mia carriera. Quest’anno saranno 22 anni. Giusto per semplificare, ecco un riepilogo delle mie posizioni nel Penske Group: Detroit Diesel Corporation (Sub of Penske Corp) – USA • Marketing Coordinator • Project management • Corporate Accounting Penske Corporation – USA • Corporate Controlling / Financial Analyst Penske Automotive Group (USA – Germany – Italy) • Internal Audit (USA And International) • Due Diligence projects for new acquisitions (USA and International) • CFO PAG Germany • CFO PAG Europe (Germany and Italy) • Managing Director and CFO (PAG Italy) Qual è il tuo ruolo attuale? Impieghiamo 620 dipendenti. Sii sempre positivo e guarda avanti!
